Arizona may be a state well known for its desert landscapes, the Grand Canyon, and the beautiful red mountains of Sedona, but have you checked out Downtown Phoenix lately?
The downtown neighborhood covers a hundred blocks which positively vibrate with life. Phoenix is a city of beauty that has inspired songwriters to put pen to paper and stars from Broadway to LA to come here to get away and soak up the sun in Arizona.
Downtown Phoenix has exciting nightlife, great sports facilities, museums, art galleries, and some pretty awesome shopping. What’s the best thing to do in Downtown Phoenix? We have a few things to put on your list while visiting or on a staycation, you may want to try them all.
1. Downtown Helicopter Tour
Could you go for a forty-minute helicopter ride? Downtown Phoenix’s stunning skyline helicopter flight is one you won’t forget. Board the helicopter at the Scottsdale Airport, just next to Phoenix, put on those headphones, grab your camera, and your off.
Fly over the Valley of the Sun, then watch as the landscape changes from desert to urban sprawl as the flight circles above Downtown. Try to get the early flight for the sunrise or the late for the sunset. Either way, it’s just beautiful.
Take sunglasses and don’t forget your camera. You’ll want a hundred photos of those views.
Be sure to check out the three-hundred and fifty plus exhibitions to discover how solar energy is harvested and used. Have an amazing experience with nature in the Immersion Theater or find out the secrets of Morse code communication.
The Arizona Science Center is a fascinating place to visit. It has a two-hundred-fifty seat planetarium plus Fab Labs where visiting scientific specialists present lectures and workshops. Be sure to take your time to explore it all. The kids will love it.
3. Downtown Murals
Take a walk or a drive around Downtown Phoenix and you’ll discover some incredible Murals. These pieces of art are carefully painted on some pretty unexpected places – walls, houses, buildings, all amazingly created.
The Murals tell stories of the past, comment on social issues, and inspire us to look at ourselves as a community. Check out this site to find out more details about the Murals, the artists, and the exact locations.
One of the places you can experience Murals Downtown is on Roosevelt Row.
4. Roosevelt Row
Snap a photo under one of the functional Shadow Play sculptures, then take a seat on one of the geometrical benches to ponder on the pattern of shadows cast by the canopy overhead.
If your visit to Downtown Phoenix falls on the first Friday of the month, take a quick detour to the Artlink’s Art Walk. It’s an open-air market where local artisans sell their handmade treasures. There’s live music, plenty of pop-up eateries and more of that fantastic Bohemian atmosphere.
