Another year has gone by, and I bet it flew, just like every year. Take the time to sit down, make a list and accomplish those few things you always put off.
1. Set goals for next year
Don’t wait until New Year’s Eve to set goals. Likely if you do it just won’t happen. If you put those goals to paper, you will have clarity when the new year chimes in of what direction the future year holds for you.
2. Plan a trip
A trip doesn’t need to be extravagant. It can be a road trip to your state or a camping trip in the mountains. Just make plans. You will feel refreshed and ready for what’s next to come both at work and in your personal life.
3. Get your health in order
It’s an easy thing to put off. Even more so if you’re taking care of others and have little time for yourself. It’s just not OK to push things off when it’s your health. Schedule the mammogram, visit your dentist, whatever you’ve been putting off… just get it done. You will be glad you did.
4. Check prepaid flexible spending benefit accounts
It’s easy to forget about the money you’ve technically already spent. Review your accounts and be sure to submit receipts that qualify for reimbursement or make a plan to use what you have leftover. Buy a new pair of glasses, refill your prescriptions, send in any outstanding receipts for reimbursement. Remember, for most healthcare spending accounts, you lose what you don’t use.
5. Get your financial life in order
Everyone worries about taxes and money. Don’t wait until April to get your paperwork in order. Sift through them in December, so you are only waiting on our W-2. Make a budget for next year. If you overspent, find ways to cut down. If you have credit card debt, choose to stay home a night you would normally go out. Put that money towards your credit card. This time next year you will be in a better financial position.
6. Let go of harboring resentments, its serves no one.
Do whatever it takes to let go of the things that benefit you. Resentment serves no one, and you will feel so much better after having conversations that set you free of hurt feelings and emotions.
