After a long day at work, try Soothing bath salts you made yourself
For a real boost to your health, try relaxing in a bath at home at the beginning or end of each day. Depending on the stress level of the week, choose your bath’s essential oils that will fit the bill. Sometimes, it may need to be relaxing, yet other times maybe for other reasons. For example, some baths are for relaxing muscles following a strenuous workout, or after injury. The intention of the bath may be to help speed the healing process by minimizing bruising, reducing swelling, and relaxing muscular tension.
The benefits of a bath may be made by adding essential oils, other times by adding bath salts. With this bath salts recipe, joints and muscles benefit from the magnesium in the Epsom salts, Baking Soda brings the acid-alkaline balance of the body more toward alkaline, and Sea Salt softens the skin. Combined, these three ingredients create a very relaxing and detoxing bath.
DIY- Bath Salts Recipe
1 part Baking Soda
1 part Sea Salt
2 parts Epsom Salt
oils as desired
It doesn’t matter what measurement you use, just make sure its the same for both baking soda and sea salt, and double it for the Epsom salt. You may need to adjust the salt if you have a salt sensitivity.
Step 1: Blend the salts together in a bowl. Stir well.
Step 2: Add the salts as the water is filling so it will dissolve in the water. Do not keep the water too hot, simply because people with high blood pressure may tighten muscles. This bath is made to relax you!
Step 3: Dim the lights, light candles and be sure to listen to spa or soothing music. The atmosphere is everything when you are trying to relax and unwind.
Step 4: Soak for 10 to 20 minutes. After soaking, be sure to rinse off by taking a quick shower. You will need to rid yourself of the salt residue.
After you have tried your DIY concoction of salts and beautiful oils, make enough for a few soaks. Just store it in a jar or container with a lid.
Essential oils can be added just before stepping into the bath, as well. If you aren’t sure what to start with see the beginner’s guide to essential oils for some ideas or try one of these:
- Lavender is known to relax.
- Rose is one of the most beautiful oils and skin moisturizer.
- Peppermint relieves muscle tension.
- Rosemary helps the lymphatic system.
Add just a few drops to a carrier oil, stir the essential oils into the bath or foot bath just before stepping in.
