Being sick is often more than physically sick. You keep an open mind to the big picture, that perhaps being sick is not physiological, it can be emotionally driven too. Have you ever heard someone say ” I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I just am not feeling good”, easily that can be a sign of the blues.
These are my top steps to help you live a better healthier life through a holistic approach:
1. Eat clean foods.
Eating clean and healthy helps keep your body strong. Instead of grabbing a burger from a fast-food restaurant, try making your meals at home. If you must eat out, there are many better choices than a greasy burger.
Be sure to get fresh vegetables and meat. With so many open markets, its simple to stop by and get a basket of fresh veggies and meats right from the local farms. Homemade food is sure to make you happy. Plus, you get to make it yourself, which means you know exactly what you’re putting in it.
2. Be active.
Don’t just sit in a chair all day, or lie in bed watching TV. Even if you have a job that requires sitting, it’s important to incorporate some form of exercise into your daily life.
After work, go for a hike when you come home. If you have a dog, take them with you. They need the exercise too. Keeping your body constantly active improves overall stamina, and going for hikes will get you fresh air and moving. You will feel great about yourself afterward.
The art of meditation can be tricky, but it can improve your life significantly. Set aside time each day to dedicate to meditation. Thirty minutes a day is plenty. Even fifteen on workdays helps.
Sit down, relax and focus on your breathing. Meditation is proven to be a very effective method of dealing with stress and helps most with decision making.
Get in contact with others who are on the same page and the same stage of life as you. This journey will be much easier to start living holistically by being around people who have already chosen this path. It will be fun to make new friends and let them help you on the path to a better life.
5. Be respective and love your life.
Life is constantly changing. Sometimes you are on top of the world and sometimes, well, life is pretty gray. These emotions are normal and really, no one’s life can be perfect all the time. It takes work to be positive, but that cup can be half full. Find the silver lining in every dark situation. There always is one.
Respectfulness is something we are taught at a really young age. Sometimes we get caught up in our own worlds we forget to open our hearts to others. You never know when you will need someone to lend a hand or an ear to you.
