Sometimes we get caught up in the feeling of not being able to be as productive or hip as these new generations. I personally am the last year of the Boomers, but we have the Millennials, the Gen-X and the Gen-Y’s, right? Let’s think about this. In my generation, we went from no cell phones, no computers, no email or text. And here we are. I would like to think its because of us, the Boomers we are where we are.
No doubt there’s a gap. I feel it, my husband feels it.. it’s real. One thing I know for sure is you can not get complacent. This generation needs to stay on top of it the best we can to even stay relevant.
I’ve compiled a list for my Boomer friends out there. Consider it like homework. Do it and you won’t fall behind and be lost.
- Embrace Modern Culture- Don’t disrespect it. When you talk about how kids dress or you can’t even understand what they are saying in that song, that’s disrespecting it. Our parents did not care for our generation’s music or dress or.. well anything either. But what’s old is new again, look around and you will see shades of the past. I think its kinda fun.
- Ache in silence- No one needs to hear about our aching back, knees or shoulders. We all know things wear out and for us, it’s our bodies. These young kids don’t want to hear about it and honestly don’t get it. It’s ok, they will be there soon enough.
- Keep your technology up to date- Do you still have a flip phone? What do you mean you can’t get google maps on your phone? No no, that’s not impressive and any youngster will laugh at you. Even your grandkids. So go to your nearest Verizon and get a smartphone, you can at least pretend to be smart.
- Please don’t drink like them- I know you get excited when the grown-up kids ask you to happy hour. Please, pretty please, do not keep up with them. They can drink double what you can, let them. It’s their hangover tomorrow.
